So, even though most of us are still putting away the Halloween decorations and sneaking candy from the kid’s stash, it’s time to admit the Holidays are almost here.
For some, the Holidays are special times, filled with family and fun. For others, the approaching Holidays can mean something else altogether. Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD is a type of depression that usually strikes in the late fall or early winter, as daylight grows shorter. While there is no specific test for SAD, symptoms often present as feelings of sadness, fatigue, irritability, sleep problems, social withdrawal, and over-eating.
If you find yourself struggling with any of these issues, here’s a few tips:
- Get enough sleep, for most, that means 7-9 hours per night.
- Eat well. Try to avoid over-doing it, especially with carbs and alcohol
- Stay active. Go for walks, join a gym, anything that will get you up and moving.
- Know when you need help
Counseling is a great way to deal with Seasonal Affective Disorder. By working with a therapist you trust, SAD can be very manageable. Please visit my website: https://mariettacounselor.com or call (678)622-1178 for more information.
